Jim Thompson House Museum

Jim Thompson House Museum
Six traditional teak houses assembled by an American who disappeared mysteriously in Malaysia's Cameron Highlands in 1967.
Thompson resurrected Thailand's silk industry post-WWII and collected Southeast Asian art obsessively. The tropical garden surrounding the houses creates this oasis in modern Bangkok where traditional architecture persists.
Mandatory guided tours mean you can't wander freely, which some people hate and others appreciate for the structured information. The guides speak multiple languages and know which stories engage which audiences.
What guides bring: The disappearance theories (multiple competing versions), art collection context, understanding traditional Thai house construction that Thompson modified.

Monika's Tip
The 10:30 AM tour is least crowded—cruise ships and tour groups arrive at 11:30 AM. Same tour, same guides, half the people blocking your view of the art collection.
