For 400 years one of the wealthiest cities on earth. In 1767 the Burmese burned it to the ground. The ruins are UNESCO-listed and genuinely extraordinary.
Ayutthaya was one of the wealthiest cities on earth for over 400 years — a kingdom that traded with Europe, China, Japan and Persia, and built temples to rival anything in Asia. In 1767, the Burmese army burned it to the ground. The ruins they left behind are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most historically significant places in Southeast Asia. Monika was trained on this history. This tour does it properly.

Your guide meets you in the lobby. The drive north from Bangkok passes through the central plains — Monika uses the journey to set the historical scene before you arrive.
One of the oldest and most important temples in Ayutthaya — and the site of the famous Buddha head cradled in the roots of a bodhi tree. Monika explains what the temple looked like before 1767, what happened during the sack, and why the head ended up where it did.
The former state temple of the Ayutthaya kings. Three great chedis stand where the palace once stood — each built to house the cremated remains of a king. Walk the grounds while Monika explains who built what, when, and for whom.
One of Thailand's largest bronze Buddha statues, restored after the 1767 destruction and again after WWII bomb damage. A story of repeated loss and revival that runs through all of Ayutthaya.
On the west bank of the river. Built by King Prasat Thong in 1630 in the Khmer style — part memorial to his mother, part declaration of power. Monika explains the architectural symbolism and the political message behind the design.

“Born in Chiang Mai and based in Bangkok, I started 'Hi Monika' to show travellers the authentic side of my country — the places my friends and family actually hang out. I love sharing our food, our culture, and the hidden stories of our neighbourhoods.”
“Monika was incredible! We saw parts of Bangkok we never would have found on our own. The street food was amazing and we felt completely safe the entire time.”
“Perfectly organised and so much more personal than a group tour. Monika knew exactly when to go to each spot to avoid the crowds.”

The Emerald Buddha isn't emerald. The Reclining Buddha maps the cosmos. There's more here than most visitors ever find out.

A Buddha hidden for centuries. A tower built from donated porcelain. Three temples with stories most visitors walk past.

Bangkok's original roads are canals. Most of the city has forgotten. This tour remembers.
