Rot Fai Park

Bangkok's premier urban birding destination operates on former golf course converted to public park, creating this extensive habitat diversity—gardens, lawns, ponds, wooded areas—that attracts serious bird diversity despite urban location.

Resident species include Olive-backed Sunbird, Brown-throated Sunbird, Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker, Coppersmith Barbet, Rufous Woodpecker. But the passage migrants (March-April peak) bring the excitement: Blue-tailed Bee-eater, Blue-winged Pitta (highlight species worth multiple visits), various flycatchers, warblers, shrikes.

The bird observation tower provides canopy-level viewing impossible from ground trails. Serious birders return regularly during migration seasons because vagrant species appear unpredictably—September-October and March-April windows produce rare sightings.

Monika's Tip

Download the Merlin Bird ID app and enable sound identification before visiting. Record bird calls you hear, let Merlin identify them, then search for visual confirmation. The app dramatically increases species you'll identify versus trying to match field guide pictures to glimpsed birds.
