Chiang Mai Zoo

Two hundred acres with 400+ species means scale justifying a full morning (minimum 2 hours) exploring.

The Panda House attracts crowds (Chuang Chuang and Lin Hui are famous pandas) but the broader collection spans impressive diversity: elephants, tigers, crocodiles, bears, gibbons, koalas, giraffes, zebras. The Nakornping Bird Park houses 1,500+ exotic species. Chimpanzees, orangutans, and gibbon island offer primate viewing.

Admission pricing is generous: adults ฿150, kids under 130cm ฿70, under 90cm free. The tram (฿30/person) allows riding versus mandatory walking—crucial during Bangkok heat. Combined zoo + aquarium ticket (฿520 or ฿390 kids) includes minibus shuttle between zones, useful for time-constrained families.

Animal performances and pony riding add activity beyond observation.

Monika's Tip

Visit the Children's Zone mid-morning (10-11 AM) when kids need break from sun. Use the indoor playground to recharge, then continue zoo exploration after cooling off. This prevents exhaustion spiral where kids meltdown from heat. Strategic break timing extends your enjoyable time by 2 hours.
