⚠️ SAFETY WARNING: Large abandoned building with structural concerns, curse mythology, and potential access restrictions.

Chiang Mai's most legendary abandoned building combines tragic construction history, supernatural curse mythology, and visible architectural ambition in this 40-year-old hotel featuring rotating rooftop restaurant that's been empty since construction deaths and spiritual warnings supposedly cursed the entire project.

Built over 700-year-old Lanna cemetery despite warnings from locals, the site experienced multiple construction deaths—some fell, some died "without cause"—leading Thai elders to believe ancient Lanna warriors' spirits cursed the development. The hotel-to-hospital conversion failed when elevators proved unsuitable for medical use. Inclined ramps were added on the north side but the project was abandoned anyway.

The building remains for sale decades later, with locals claiming nobody dares purchase the cursed location. The rotating restaurant visible for miles represents the modern marvel it aspired to be before the curse narrative took over.

Monika's Tip

The curse story is fascinating Thai folklore mixing modern development with ancient spiritual beliefs—learning about it teaches you more about northern Thai culture than actually entering a dangerous abandoned building. The supernatural narrative explains why beautiful prime real estate sits empty for 40 years despite being on the market.
