South of Maenam Kwai Road sits Song Kwae Road—where the nightlife shifts from backpacker budget to something more upbeat and decidedly more Thai.
The bars and clubs here cater to Bangkok visitors on weekend getaways and local Thai professionals. Hi-Speed Pub and Glitzy Pub are the two most popular nightclubs, both featuring live music. Hi-Speed even has hostess service. The energy here doesn't start until midnight, which tells you immediately it's Thai nightlife rhythm rather than tourist schedule. Prices are higher than Maenam Kwai Road but still far cheaper than Bangkok.

If you want to see how Thais actually party outside of Bangkok, Song Kwae Road on Saturday night after midnight is it. The music is Thai pop and luk thung (Thai country), the energy is infectious, and you'll be the only foreigner in most venues. Hi-Speed Pub is the safer first choice—Glitzy is more intense."
