Ayothaya Floating Market

Ayothaya Floating Market
This is Thailand's answer to Disneyland's version of a floating market.
It's artificial, built for tourists, and spread across 80 acres of artificial waterways with traditional Thai wooden houses and vendors in traditional dress—and you know what? It's fantastic.
Unlike the famous floating markets near Bangkok that require 4 AM wake-ups and long boat rides, this one is easy: walking distance from Ayutthaya Railway Station, open all day, and packed with every Thai souvenir, craft, and sweet you could want. Boat rides through the market channels are optional. Elephant rides to the Historical Park leave from here. It's convenience packaged as culture.

Monika's Tip
Everyone rides the boats in circles looking at the same stalls. Instead, walk the wooden pathways on foot—you can buy the same stuff, haggle better, and actually see the crafts up close. Save the boat ride for sunset when the light turns the water golden.
