Wat Arun

Wat Arun
The Khmer-style prang tower rises from the Chao Phraya River bank covered in Chinese porcelain fragments that shimmer when light hits correctly.
The central prang is climbable despite steep stairs that borderline dangerous. At the top, the river spreads below, boats cutting lines across brown water, Bangkok sprawling beyond. The climb justifies the entrance fee alone.
Sunset brings photography crowds trying to capture the illuminated temple from across the river. The view from the opposite bank surpasses being inside the temple grounds at that hour.
Guide helps: Understanding Khmer architectural influence, explaining the recycled porcelain history, timing sunset photography from the ideal opposite bank location.

Monika's Tip
Cross the river at 5 PM to photograph Wat Arun from Tha Tien pier side. The sunset illumination looks better from across the water than inside the temple grounds. ฿5 ferry versus ฿200 admission for the superior view.
