East Chiang Mai Gallery District

East Chiang Mai Gallery District
Cluster of small independent galleries east of Old City featuring local artists, design shops, and craft studios.
The area east of Chiang Mai's Old City along Charoen Rat Road has developed quietly into the city's most concentrated gallery zone, a walkable stretch of independent art spaces, design shops, and craft studios run by local artists and makers. Unlike the busier Nimman commercial district, this area retains a working creative character: studios that are also selling spaces, galleries that double as artist residencies, and shops where the person behind the counter made what is on display.
Many galleries open by appointment rather than keeping fixed hours, so a little advance planning is worthwhile. The reward is access to a corner of Chiang Mai's art scene that operates on its own terms, well outside the tourist circuit.
