Sunday Walking Street (Chiang Mai Night Market)

Sunday Walking Street (Chiang Mai Night Market)
Every Sunday evening, Rachadamnoen Road transforms from a normal street into a kilometer-long artery of handmade everything.
The Old City closes to traffic and the entire town shows up—locals selling, tourists buying, monks collecting alms, street musicians creating soundtracks, food vendors grilling satay that perfumes the entire length of the market.
This is the real Chiang Mai creative scene. Hill tribe women sell textiles they wove. University students hawk leather goods they designed. Massage students offer sidewalk foot rubs. Artists paint while you watch. It's commerce, yes, but it's also community gathering wrapped in beautiful chaos.

Monika's Tip
The best local artists are at the Tha Pae Gate end. Tourist vendors dominate near Wat Phra Singh. Also, there's a kids' craft workshop area near Wat Chedi Luang around 6 PM—they teach traditional Thai crafts for free.
