Wat Sri Suphan

Wat Sri Suphan
Entire exterior covered in handcrafted silverwork displaying traditional Lanna artistry.
The temple sits in the silversmith neighborhood where artisans have worked metal for generations. The connection between craft community and temple decoration is direct—the families who made this still work in shops surrounding it.
Women are prohibited from entering the main chapel (active religious rule, not tourism policy). It's controversial, historically rooted, and enforced. Female visitors can explore the grounds but not the silver chapel interior.
What guides add: Understanding silversmithing history, explaining the female prohibition's religious basis, navigating the craft workshops around the temple.

Monika's Tip
The Saturday night walking street market starts right at Wat Sri Suphan and stretches through the craft neighborhood. Visit the temple at 6 PM, photograph it in early evening light, then the market opens around you at 6:30 PM. Combined temple visit and shopping in one trip.
