About this tour

The same history as The Lost Capital — the ruins, the fallen temples, the story of Ayutthaya's rise and destruction — but a different journey home. After the morning at the ruins, the return to Bangkok is by river cruise along the Chao Phraya: rural riverbanks, old riverside temples, fishing communities and the Bangkok skyline appearing gradually on the horizon. The historical context from the morning makes the river itself more interesting to watch.

The drive north. Monika uses the journey to build the historical context before you arrive at the ruins.

Ayutthaya Temple Sites

Wat Mahathat, Wat Phra Si Sanphet and Wat Chaiwatthanaram — the three sites that best capture what Ayutthaya was before 1767. Monika covers the founding, the 400-year kingdom, the Burmese sack and what it left behind.

River Cruise to Bangkok

Board the cruise from Ayutthaya and travel south along the Chao Phraya. Rural riverbanks give way to river communities, old temple spires and eventually the outer city. A perspective on Thailand that the road cannot give you.

Arrival back in Bangkok, then onward transfer to your hotel.

Will we have the tour to ourselves?

Yes — this is strictly a private tour for you and your loved ones only. No other guests, no shared buses, no waiting around for people you have never met. The guide, the vehicle and the entire day are exclusively yours.

Can I change the date after booking?

Yes — contact us via WhatsApp or email at least 12 hours before the tour start time and we will reschedule your tour once at no extra cost, subject to availability. Subsequent reschedules are subject to a THB 1,500 fee.

What happens if it rains?

Bangkok weather is unpredictable. Tours operate rain or shine — we provide umbrellas if needed and adapt the itinerary where possible. If severe weather makes the tour unsafe, you'll receive a full reschedule or refund.

Do I need to pay anything on the day?

No. The price covers everything: entrance fees, all transport, bottled water and lunch. Just bring spending money for any personal shopping or optional extras.

Note: many local vendors and restaurants do not accept credit cards — cash is always the safest option.

Is this tour suitable for children?

Yes. The pace and itinerary are adapted to your group. Let us know the ages of your children when booking so we can plan accordingly.

Wednesday to Sunday only: This tour operates Wed–Sun based on cruise schedules. Please check your booking date carefully.

Early departure: This tour departs at 7 AM. Please be ready in your lobby at your confirmed pickup time.

The return is by river: The journey back to Bangkok is by boat along the Chao Phraya — not by road. If you are prone to motion sickness on water, please take precautions before the tour.

A long day: Plan for approximately 10 hours from pickup to drop-off.

Dress code: Shoulders and knees must be covered at all temple sites.

Dietary Needs: We can accommodate vegetarian diets — please let us know when booking.
