A relic of the Buddha rode up this mountain on a white elephant, who chose where to stop and then died on the spot. The golden chedi built there has watched over Chiang Mai since the 14th century. On the way up, a quiet jungle temple sits hidden in the trees along the old monk's trail.
Early start — 7:00–7:30 AM: Pickup is between 7:00–7:30 AM — be ready in your hotel lobby by the earliest time.
A white elephant carried a sacred relic up this mountain in the 14th century, stopped at the summit and died — which is exactly why Wat Phra That Doi Suthep was built there. The Monk's Trail leading up passes Wat Pha Lat first, a moss-covered jungle temple most visitors walk straight past without knowing it's there.

Your guide meets you in the lobby and you head up Doi Suthep mountain together in a private, air-conditioned vehicle.
A stop on the old Monk's Trail at this hidden jungle temple. Mossy stone shrines, naga statues and a small stream running through the grounds, usually with no one else around.
Climb the 309-step staircase flanked by a seven-headed naga, then explore the golden chedi, the temple bells and the viewpoint over the whole Chiang Mai valley.
A short stop at this small waterfall near the base of the mountain, a favourite cooling-off spot for locals on the way back into the city.
Your guide returns you to your hotel with the rest of the day still ahead of you.

“Born in Chiang Mai and based in Bangkok, I started 'Hi Monika' to show travellers the authentic side of my country — the places my friends and family actually hang out. I love sharing our food, our culture, and the hidden stories of our neighbourhoods.”
“Monika was incredible! We saw parts of Chiang Mai we never would have found on our own. The street food was amazing and we felt completely safe the entire time.”
“Perfectly organised and so much more personal than a group tour. Monika knew exactly when to go to each spot to avoid the crowds.”
Note: many local vendors and restaurants do not accept credit cards — cash is always the safest option.

The Emerald Buddha isn't emerald. The Reclining Buddha maps the cosmos. There's more here than most visitors ever find out.

A Buddha hidden for centuries. A tower built from donated porcelain. Three temples with stories most visitors walk past.

Bangkok's original roads are canals. Most of the city has forgotten. This tour remembers.
