About this tour

The Sanctuary of Truth has been under construction since 1981 and isn't finished yet — by design. Every surface of this 105-metre all-wood structure is hand-carved in traditional joinery, depicting Hindu, Buddhist, Khmer and Chinese cosmology as a single unified vision. No nails. The carvers are still at work when you visit. In the afternoon, Nong Nooch's 600-acre tropical garden offers something completely different: formal French parterres, one of Asia's most significant cycad and palm collections, and an orchid house that takes time to move through properly. Two projects driven by personal conviction, both worth the drive.

Tour Highlights

  • The Sanctuary of Truth up close — 105 metres of hand-carved teak and timber, every surface alive with centuries of spiritual iconography, still being built today
  • Watching the carvers at work — craftsmen continuing a project that began in 1981 and has no set completion date
  • Nong Nooch's botanical collection — formal European gardens giving way to one of Asia's finest palm and cycad collections
  • The deliberate philosophy of both sites — the Sanctuary rejecting modern materials entirely, Nong Nooch growing more complex with every season

Itinerary

Tour runs approx. 9h

Hotel Pickup

Your guide meets you in the lobby for the drive south toward the coast.

Sanctuary of Truth

Walk the exterior first — the full scale of the structure only becomes clear from outside. Then enter: every pillar, wall and ceiling surface hand-carved with Hindu deities, Buddhist cosmology, Khmer architectural motifs and Chinese symbolism woven into a single building. Monika explains what you're looking at as you move through. Carvers work on the structure daily — the tools and techniques are traditional.

Nong Nooch Tropical Garden

Six hundred acres of botanical garden. The formal French parterre is the visual centrepiece, but the palm grove, cycad collection and orchid houses reward slower exploration. Monika knows which sections are worth the most time.

Monika was incredible! We saw parts of Bangkok we never would have found on our own. The street food was amazing and we felt completely safe the entire time.

Perfectly organised and so much more personal than a group tour. Monika knew exactly when to go to each spot to avoid the crowds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will we have the tour to ourselves?
Yes — this is strictly a private tour for you and your loved ones only. No other guests, no shared buses, no waiting around for people you have never met. The guide, the vehicle and the entire day are exclusively yours.
Can I change the date after booking?
Yes — contact us via WhatsApp or email at least 12 hours before the tour start time and we will reschedule your tour once at no extra cost, subject to availability. Subsequent reschedules are subject to a THB 1,500 fee.
What happens if it rains?
Bangkok weather is unpredictable. Tours operate rain or shine — we provide umbrellas if needed and adapt the itinerary where possible. If severe weather makes the tour unsafe, you'll receive a full reschedule or refund.
Do I need to pay anything on the day?
No. The price covers everything: entrance fees, all transport, bottled water and lunch. Just bring spending money for any personal shopping or optional extras.

Note: many local vendors and restaurants do not accept credit cards — cash is always the safest option.

Is this tour suitable for children?
Yes. The pace and itinerary are adapted to your group. Let us know the ages of your children when booking so we can plan accordingly.

Know before you go

Active construction site: The Sanctuary of Truth is a working construction site. Hard-hat areas exist and your guide will navigate these. This is part of what makes the visit unlike any other temple in Thailand.
Nong Nooch has other activities: The garden complex offers elephant shows and cultural performances separately on the grounds. These are not part of this tour and we do not attend them.
Sun and heat: Both sites involve extended outdoor walking in the coastal heat. Strong sun protection and good hydration are important throughout the day.
Dietary Needs: We can accommodate vegetarian diets — please let us know when booking.
