Wat Phu Khao Thong

Wat Phu Khao Thong
Temple on a hill (unusual in flat Ayutthaya) with towering chedi and panoramic views of surrounding farmland.
The architectural style shows Burmese influence from when Myanmar briefly controlled Ayutthaya. The white chedi visible from across the province serves as landmark for navigation.
At the top, the views justify the climb—360-degree panorama of temples, rice fields, and modern Ayutthaya sprawling between ruins. On clear days you can identify individual temples in the historical park kilometers away.
Guide helps: Explaining the Burmese architectural influence, identifying which temples are visible from the top, understanding the historical significance of height in flat landscape.

Monika's Tip
Climb at 5 PM to avoid midday heat. Watch sunset from the top, then descend. The white chedi gets illuminated at dusk creating this beacon effect you can see from kilometers away. Sunset from up there is worth the stair climb.
