Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon

Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon
Active temple with massive reclining Buddha and large chedi you can climb.
The distinctive sight of saffron-robed Buddha statues lined in neat rows makes Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon one of the most photogenic spots in Ayutthaya. Unlike many ruins on the main island, this is an active monastery, quiet chanting and temple life layer over the ancient atmosphere in a way that feels genuinely alive rather than preserved for visitors.
The large central chedi is climbable and rewards the effort with elevated views across the surrounding countryside. Located southeast of the main island, it sees fewer day-trippers than the central ruins, particularly in the early morning.
