The Robot Building (UOB Bank Headquarters)

The Robot Building (UOB Bank Headquarters)
Twenty stories of concrete robot standing eternal watch over Silom's banking district, complete with circular eyeball windows, nuts-and-bolts decorations, and communication antenna because apparently United Overseas Bank wanted their headquarters to reflect "computerization in banking" through literal robot metaphor.
The same architect (Sumet Jumsai) designed the Elephant Building, suggesting he has specific vision about Bangkok needing more buildings shaped like things. The narrowing torso, lidded eyeball top floors, and antenna crown create this sleeping robot aesthetic that either delights or horrifies depending on architectural taste.
It's a working bank headquarters—completely functional building that happens to look like a toy. The childish fun contrasts perfectly with the serious banking operations inside, which might be exactly the point.

Monika's Tip
Walk to the 7-Eleven across the street for cold drink and shoot from their parking area—you get unobstructed sight line to the full robot without standing in traffic. The store staff are used to photographers using the spot.
