Wat Saket (Golden Mount)

Three hundred eighteen steps spiral up this artificial hill topped with a golden chedi that glows supernaturally during sunset, creating Bangkok's most accessible temple summit panorama without requiring rooftop bar drink purchases.

The climb winds through bells you're supposed to ring while ascending, trees shading the staircases, and increasingly better views as elevation increases. The summit delivers 360-degree city perspectives with the golden stupa as foreground element—completely different composition from modern rooftop bars.

The temple complex at base and summit means you're combining spiritual site with viewpoint rather than drinking cocktails in sky bars. The sunset lighting on the golden chedi creates magical photography moment that explains why people climb those 318 steps.

Monika's Tip

Arrive 45 minutes before sunset, climb slowly, and position yourself on the east side of the summit platform. When the sun sets behind you, it lights the golden chedi from the side creating that glowing effect everyone wants. The west side photographers get the sunset but lose the golden temple shot.
